In 2004, the creative team behind Stephen Daldry's smash hit film Billy Elliot got together again to create a musical version of the movie.
Set against the backdrop of the 1984 miners' strike, Billy Elliot the Musical tells the story of Billy, a young boy born in a northern town where men box and work in the mines. They do not dance and they certainly do not harbour ambitions of attending the Royal Ballet School. But Billy is a bit different. Brought up by a single father following his mother's death, Billy does not want to fight, but is enthralled by the grace and wonder of ballet. With gritty determination he attempts to prove the doubters wrong by going all the way.
A funny, heart-warming and feel-good celebration of one young boy's dream, Billy Elliot the Musical is a gripping tale of triumph over adversity featuring a specially composed score by music legend Elton John, one of the most celebrated UK singer songwriters of the last 30 years.
Please note that this production contains strong language and some scenes of confrontation between policemen and miners. The recommended minimum age is eight years old.
