Willy Russell's hit musical Blood Brothers has been a massive success worldwide and is one of the longest running musicals in the West End, scooping four awards for best musical in London and seven Tony Award nominations on Broadway.
Blood Brothers follows the captivating and moving story of fraternal twins separated at birth. The twins' different backgrounds take them to the opposite ends of the social spectrum, one becoming an Oxbridge graduated councilor and the other ending up unemployed and in prison for a while. Years later, destiny brings them back together and both fall in love with the same girl with tragic consequences.
The incredible score includes Marilyn Monroe, That Guy, Bright New Day and the emotionally charged hit Tell Me It's Not True.
Originally written and presented as a school play in 1981, Willy Russell redeveloped the work into a musical. It opened at the Liverpool Playhouse in 1983 starring Barbara Dickson and transferred to London where it closed after six months. Renowned producer Bill Kenwright took over the show and following a year long national tour, it reopened in the West End's Albery Theatre in 1988 before transferring to the Phoenix Theatre, where it has been running ever since.
