When lounge singer Deloris Van Cartier witnesses a mob murder she is placed in protective custody in the one place cops are sure she won't be found - a convent! Disguised as a nun, she finds herself at odds with both the rigid, austere lifestyle and an uptight Mother Superior. Using her unique disco moves and singing talent, Deloris manages to inspire the flagging choir and breathe new life into the church and community.

But her efforts start to attract attention and her cover is soon blown. With the gang on her tail, the mobsters get more than they bargained for, finding themselves up against Deloris and the power of her new found sisters!
