Actress and comedian Meera Syal replaces Strictly Come Dancing Judge Craig Revel Horwood as the inebriated harridan Miss Hannigan in Nikolai Foster's brand new production of Annie at London's Piccadilly Theatre.

Based on the American comic strip Little Orphan Annie, the much loved musical charts the rags to riches tale of a young girl as she goes from forgotten orphan to living in the home of billionaire Oliver Warbucks.

Set in Depression-era New York, Annie and her fellow orphans are forced to live a life of misery and drudgery languishing in Miss Hannigan’s Dickensian-like orphanage. Annie is chosen to spend Christmas at the Warbucks mansion, where she eventually confessesher longing to find her parents. With a $50,000 reward offered to the couple who can prove they are her parents, Miss Hannigan and her cohorts hatch a sneaky plan to scupper Annie's happiness and take the cash for themselves.

The popular score by Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin includes favourites such as It’s the Hard Knock Life, Easy Street, I Don’t Need Anything But You, plus the eternal anthem of optimism, Tomorrow.
